If you believe that your blue reliever inhaler is the most important part of your Asthma treatment and you use it very often, you may be at risk of becoming over-reliant on that inhaler. Using your reliever 3 times or more a week can put you at risk of experiencing Asthma attacks more often. 10,21
The recently updated global recommendations overturn decades of Asthma care, highlighting the need to re-examine Asthma treatment. The guidelines state that although every person with Asthma should be prescribed a reliever to treat acute symptoms, you should also be using daily preventative treatment (a controller), even if you do not experience symptoms regularly. This strategy will ensure you do not become too reliant on your blue reliever. 10,21
The Reliever Over-Reliance Test
Using a SABA inhaler 3 or more times a week is an indicator of increased risk of Asthma attacks.
